Jealous East London man jailed for life after killing ex-girlfriend's lover

The East London High Court convicted and sentenced a 47-year-old man, Luyanda Boma, and a 22-year-old man, Buhle Vumindaba, to life for murder and rape as well as 10 years imprisonment for robbery.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Mluleki Mbi, three suspects - Luyanda Boma, Buhle Vumindaba and Mthuthuzeli Lala, were arrested after they brutally attacked and killed a 46-year-old man, Luyanda Mroxe, and also assaulted and raped his girlfriend.

"The couple was on their way home at Majarintini, Berlin, outside East London, when they were accosted and attacked by three assailants of which amongst them was the victims' ex-boyfriend, Luyanda Boma," he said.

"Accused no. 2, Mthuthuzeli Lala was found not guilty and was discharged."

Victim now wheelchair-bound after assault and rape

Acting Mdantsane Cluster Commander, Brigadier Marinda Mills, said, "We welcome the sentence because it is important that rapist realize that they will be arrested and will spend the rest of their lives in jail when they commit acts of rape which violates an individuals' human rights in the most severe way".

As a result of the brutal attack, the victim suffered spinal injuries and is now wheelchair-bound and relies on social disability grant.
