Jeffreys Bay man expected in court for illegal firearm possession

The Humansdorp K9 arrested a man for possession of unlicensed firearm during patrols in Jeffreys Bay over the weekend.

"On Saturday, at around 22:45, it is alleged that two men were walking in Loods Park Crescent, Jeffreys Bay, on seeing a police van, they started running away in different directions," described police spokeesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli.

"One of them was seen throwing something in an open space.

"Police gave chase and caught him few metres away."

Sergeant Nkohli said that police returned to the spot, where he was seen throwing something and found a 9mm Norinco with 8 rounds of ammunition.

"He was arrested. The 25-year-old man will appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition."
