Uniondale is gearing itself up for the annual Karoo to Coast, a 100 km off-road race from Uniondale to Knysna via the Prince Alfred Pass. 4 000 entrants are expected this year with entries already closed and the Pennypinchers Lions Karoo to Coast Mountain Bike Race has been selected as an Official Premier Seeding Event of the 2016 Cape Town Cycle Tour.

George Tourism’s officials from Uniondale will have a stand be at the event to market George and Uniondale to the visitors as a preferred tourism destination.

George Tourism a hit at the JHB Getaway Show

George and Uniondale Tourism represented by Claudine Carelse, current acting Tourism Manager and Ricardo Claassen attend the JHB Getaway Show two weeks ago and were very well received.

The Getaway show was well attended with 400+ exhibitors, including travel destinations, airlines, accommodation, outdoor gear, 4 x 4 equipment and adventure operators taking part.

The George Tourism stand, newly designed to enhance and reflect the diversity of the area, was a huge hit with the public In particular the stunning photograph of  Victoria Bay which was keenly used as a backdrop to many consumers “selfies” showing that this little Bay plays an integral part in South African culture.

George and Uniondale Tourism found that the new tourism maps proved very popular.  A number of sponsored prizes were enthusiastically received by selected visitors to the stand and the following sponsors must be thanked for the wonderful prizes supplied:Eden Adventures, Monkeyland, Perdepoort and Sedgway Tours.

Uniondale suppliers provided products for display on the stand -  the black Feige Mediterranean Figs and jam from Ella Jubelius, harvested in the Kammanasie Valley and Aloe skin products sponsored by Garry Struver.

George Municipality was able to market George and Uniondale to a niche audience and strengthen relationships with various role players in the industry.

It was an ideal platform to market George as a central destination point from which to explore the Southern Cape in its entirety.

George with its variety of accommodation, attractions and activities offers consumers a complete South African holiday package and exhibitions such as the JHB Getaway Show enable George Tourism to partner with private and corporate entities from George and surrounds to actively promote the area.
