Kenton police chance upon mandrax worth R25 600 while looking for stolen phone

Kenton-on-Sea police were conducting a follow up investigation on a stolen cellphone at Marcelle Location, in the town, when they stopped at a house that was identified by the complainant.

"The suspect greeted the team and allowed them a search of his premises," said police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender.

"Whilst the search was being undertaken, the suspect went towards his clothing that was in the cupboard.

"Under the watchful eye of the team, an envelope fell from the cupboard.

"On inspection of the envelope, 320 mandrax tablets were discovered with a total value R 25 600-00."

According to Captain Govender, police promptly arrested the 31-year-old male suspect.

He will appear in the Kenton-on-Sea Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on a charge of possession of mandrax.
