Kids of Tomorrow reopens Esinelitha Day Care in Walmer Township

Port Elizabeth - Kids of Tomorrow, a beneficiary of IRONMAN 4 the Kidz, reopens a new creche in Walmer Township. Walmer Township is one of the poorest neighbourhoods in the Eastern Cape, and the community will welcome the newly built Esinelitha Day Care Centre with open arms.

The day care accommodates between 40 - 50 youngsters with ages varying between 2 - 7 years. This will be the second day care centre to be rebuilt under Kids of Tomorrow, with first being Sikelela Pre-School and Creche (in Airport Valley) completed in November 2018.

“With Esinelitha Day Care Centre, we saw a great need in the community and were touched to do something about it. The previous structure was poorly built from corrugated iron and simply nailed together. With weather conditions and daily wear and tear, the structure showed visible signs of deterioration," says Belinda Wolff, Founder of Kids of Tomorrow.

"When it rained, water would pour through (inside the creche) and we would need to put buckets everywhere to catch the water seeping in. After numerous patch work repairs to the roof, we thought that instead of fixing up the roof we would rebuild the whole structure. It is now much bigger and safer for the kids.

"Before it was just one classroom, now the day care has one large classroom, two smaller ones, a kitchen and an office for Mama Joyce (the principal of the creche)."

Based in Walmer’s informal settlement, Kids of Tomorrow are a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) who assist underprivileged children with daily care, nutritional and educational needs, “we aim to uplift children in impoverished communities. We do this with the assistance of the public and we’ve seen some great businesses come on board too.”

“We started four years ago, and I decided to register the organisation as a NPO because no company wants to donate to an individual person; they are more willing to donate to a registered NPO. This allows them to get the benefits of a Section 18A Tax Certificate. If you’re just an individual you get no substantial help from anyone, so I decided to start up Kids of Tomorrow (as registered NPO) in order to be more use to those in need,” continues Wolff.

The new building of Esinelitha Day Care Centre has been supported by IRONMAN 4 the Kidz, IRONMAN South Africa, Chris Howes Construction, Greyveinsteins Incorporated, Bocadillos, Dario from Twenty-Four Electrical, Greg from Hola 4, Rebecca Nyangaresi-Gangi and Paddy Cloete.

Public participation is always welcomed by Kids of Tomorrow, with their yearly fundraising initiative already in full swing.

“Our fundraiser works in a similar way to Santa’s Shoe Box, except ours aren’t given in a shoe box. Our gifts are given in a bag which consists of numerous age appropriate toys, clothes, balls, crayons, face-clothes, toothbrush, toothpaste and a packet of biscuits and sweets. It’s easy for the public to get involved. Interested supporters can contact me," explains Wolff.

"I will send them an email and they can come back confirming their commitment and if they are willing to sponsor one or two children. I then email them back the details of the child (age, gender and the name) to allow them to purchase their gifts for the youngsters they are sponsoring, and I will deliver them by the end of the year.”

The due date for these items is Saturday, 09 November 2019.
