King Williams Town police seize firearm, ammo and drugs following intimidation complaint

King Williams Town - Police on Thursday arrested a 66-year-old male from Rhayi Location, outside King Williams Town, for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, intimidation and possession of dagga.

"The arrest comes after police were called to the location on information about a man, who intimidated the community members with a firearm," said police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa.

"On police arrival, they recovered AK47 rifle with magazine and 60 rounds of ammunition and 28 loose R5 rifle ammunition.

"On further investigation, police recovered half-a-bag of loose dagga and 26 arms of dagga and a pistol magazine and firearm cleaning kit."

She said that the suspect will appear at the Zwelitsha Magistrate's Court on Monday.

King William’s Town SAPS Cluster Commander, Brigadier Luntu Ngubelanga, applauded the swift response by police members in ensuring that at least one rifle is off the streets in saving one’s life.

He encouraged the members to continue with their crime prevention duties to fight crime in creating a safe and secure environment for all.
