King Williams Town police seize firearm, arrest man during raid on alleged drug den

A community member informed King Williams Town of the alleged drug post

King Williams Town - A crime intelligence driven operation between the King Williams Town Flying Squad and the K9 Unit led to the arrest of a 26-year-old male at his home in Mamata Location, outside King Williams Town.

"This comes after police received an information from a community member about a house that sells drugs at Mamata Location, Dimbaza," said police spokesperson, Capt Siphokazi Mawisa.

"Police had a search warrant and on their arrival, they began to search the house and recovered two magazines with nine and eight rounds of ammunition."

She added that a thorough search was done in the house and K9 Unit member brought in a dog (Kass) and recovered an unlicensed firearm hidden underneath the matrass in the owner’s bedroom.

"The suspect was immediately arrested and charged for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition."

Capt Mawisa said that the suspect will appear at Dimbaza Magistrate's Court on Monday.

King William's Town SAPS Cluster Commander, Brigadier Luntu Ngubelanga, commended the members for their excellent work in ensuring that crime is reduced in the King William’s Town area.

He said that if they continue with operations of this nature, they will conquer crime and build a safe and secured environment for our communities.
