Kingswood overpower Graeme in Grahamstown cricket derby

In a local Grahamstown cricket derby, Kingswood College played Graeme College last weekend with the 1st XI, 2nd XI, 3rd XI, U15A (Colts ‘A’) and U14A all grandstanding for their respective schools.

The 1st XI match-up appeared to be a bit of a mismatch with Kingswood winning by a fine century of runs after getting Graeme all out for 137. With Kingswood making 237 all out in their innings, there saw two half-centurions in Justin Potgieter (68) and James Kelly (55), while Aidan Hawkesworth (35) and James Rippon (33) also contributed elegantly.

With the ball, Hilton Krige (4/17) and Josh von Holdt (2/20) contributed their hand the most in grounding out Graeme’s batting fold.

In the U15’s, Graeme managed to rout their Kingswood opponents – winning by 63 runs. Graeme set a total of 170 all out with Michael Fourie (3/25) and Jano Roux (2/34) causing a slight dent in their opposition’s prospects.

It wasn’t to be too consequential, as Kingswood were all left walking with a total of 107. Roux scored almost a third of the team’s total with 41.

An abysmal mismatch saw Kingswood’s U14A’s thrash Graeme by an astonishing 216 runs – after the latter were all bowled out for a shocking 27. Kingswood scored 243/8 declared with Dwayne Pharo (51), Darius Govender (39) and Dean van Heerden (37 not out) contributing the most with the bat.

Damilola Odunuga’s wicket tally showed to be more than his conceded runs with figures of 5/4, while Rotino Flusk also contributed in that fierce onslaught with 2/3 bowling figures.

2nd XI’s result- Kingswood won by five wickets.

3rd XI’s result- Kingswood won by 179 runs.
