KwaNobuhle couple robbed in their home after returning from bank

Uitenhage poice believe couple was followed by criminals after withdrawing money

Uitenhage - Members of the South African Police Service in Kwanobuhle, in Uitenhage, launched a manhunt for two suspects, who allegedly robbed a 56-year-old woman in her house.

According to police information, the robbery took place at the house in Bhuda Crescent, Holomisa area, in Kwanobuhle, just after 07:00 on Wednesday. 

"It is alleged that the complainant and her husband returned from an ATM after they withdrew a substantial amount of cash," said police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart.

"Two suspects entered the house and one pointed at the couple with a firearm and demanded the cash."

She added that the suspects took the cash and the car keys to their blue Toyota Corolla and fled with the vehicle from the scene. 

"No shots were fired during the robbery and detectives were summoned to the scene where they followed up on all possible leads," Capt Swart described.

"The vehicle was later found abandoned soon afterwards."

She said that police are warning community members, who visit financial institutions, to be aware of their surroundings and to be alert of any suspicious vehicle/s or suspects, who might follow clients after withdrawing cash.

"Detectives are investigating a case of house robbery," Capt Swart said.

"Anyone who might be able to assist with any information about the house robbery, may contact the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Wouter Verwey on 084 846 2273 or Crime Stop 08600 10111."
