KwaNobuhle stokvel robbed, police searching for suspects

The South African Police Service in KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage, in co-operation with detectives from the Uitenhage Cluster Operational Command Centre, launched a search for armed suspects following a robbery at a residence in Bantom Street, KwaNobuhle on Sunday, at 16:45.

"It is alleged that the armed male suspects entered the house, whilst females were busy hosting a stokvel meeting. The suspects threatened the group and demanded their cash," said police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart.

"The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money and six cellphones and fled on foot from the scene.

"No one was injured during the robbery."

She said that Uitenhage Cluster detectives are investigating a case of house robbery and detectives are following up on all possible leads.

"The South African Police Service appeal to stokvel association to put additional safety measures in place to prevent these robberies from occurring," Capt Swart advised.

"Doors must always be locked, especially during these meetings. Anyone who might be able to assist with any information, may contact Detective Warrant Officer Wouter Verwey on 084 846 2273 or Crime Stop number 08600 10111."
