Law catches up with East London housebreaking suspect, TVs worth over R60 000 recovered

A 26-year-old man from Mdantsane, outside East London, is expected in court on Friday after he was arrested by Bhisho police early on Thursday morning for housebreaking and theft.

According to the police, the arrest came after a case of housebreaking and theft from Bhisho Park was reported for investigation at Bhisho SAPS in February 2017.

“A tracing operation was conducted after police visited the scene and an exhibit was found and taken for fingerprints,” said police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa.

She added that thorough investigations followed the fingerprints results and led to a house at Mdantsane Location where police recovered eight Plasma television sets to the value of R62 000.

“Four of these televisions were recovered at NU 1, 16 and 17 and four other televisions, two DSTV Decoder and 10kg of rice and remote controls were kept in a house at Dice Informal Settlement, outside Mdantsane,” described Captain Mawisa

The suspect was charged with housebreaking and theft and will appear at Zwelitsha Magistrate Court on Friday.

The Cluster Commander of King Williams Town, Brigadier Luntu Ngubelanga appreciated the working relationship between the community and the police in fighting crime in our communities.

He also encouraged the community members to report the criminals and criminal activities to the police on Crime Stop 08600 10111, Crime Line 32211 or the nearest police station.

He then thanked officers for a job well done in tracing the suspect and recovering the goods, which sends a strong message to all perpetrators of crime that police will not rest till they are behind bars.
