Lentjies hopes for Chippa rejuvenation over former long-served Maritzburg United

The lowly-grounded Chippa United, who are now five games winless in the 2017/18 ABSA Premiership so far, will aim for rejuvenation when they face Maritzburg United at the NMB Stadium on Wednesday night.

Chippa’s star midfielder, Kurt Lentjies, who has previously club-hopped between Mamelodi Sundowns, Bloem Celtic, SuperSport United and Maritzburg United alike, told KickOff that he is unfazed about playing against his side from last year’s campaign, and will treat the game just like any other.

Lentjies spent six seasons at Maritzburg, and captained the club to their best ever PSL seventh-place finish in the 2016/17 season – this year the influential playmaker will front up in the white and blue of the Chilli Boys, with a special focus on well-aligning the club’s season ahead.

“I'm not going to be preparing anything differently with what we've been doing, Every opponent is different and of course we planned and prepared well for them,” Lentjies said.

“Our coaching staff and technical team have been working well and that is their department. We need to execute the plan on the match day."

Chippa United have recently succumbed to tumultuous affairs off the field, with former coach Dan Malesela having been released over a month ago due to an ongoing slump of form – only for Teboho Moloi to take over the reins, but yet to have registered a win either. After the FIFA break, Lentjies hopes for the side to begin setting the mark.

“The break was a good thing because it gave us more time to work with the coach. It's been a good break, we've worked as a collective, as a unit, as a team. So we are looking forward to today's game," he said.

The Chilli Boys are currently placed 12th on the overall PSL log, with Maritzburg languishing at eighth. Kick-off for the encounter is at 19:30.
