The State is expected to oppose bail in the Libode Magistrate's Court on Friday when a local pastor appears before the court.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Dineo Koena, the pastor is alleged to have raped his 18-year-old daughter at a locality in Libode since 2015.

"He has entered a not guilty plea on Thursday and indicated that he intends applying for bail," she said.

Capt Koena said that the Acting Cluster Commander Brigadier Nomawethu Makonza advised the investigating officer that bail must be opposed at all costs to prevent the suspect from intimidating other witnesses.

She also stated that this is an extremely sensitive case and that the victim has a right to be protected against the alleged perpetrator by the State.
