LIVE STREAM: Democratic Alliance leads Freedom Day Rally at Vuyisile Mini Square

A crowd of loyal supporters has gathered in front of the City Hall, in Port Elizabeth, where the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Eastern Cape is hosting its Freedom Day rally.

Despite both Save South Africa and the Democratic Alliance (DA) having similar goals of kicking President Jacob Zuma out of office over alleged bad leadership, that culminated in the firing of former Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan, and his Deputy and former Eastern Cape MEC for Economic Development, Mcebisi Jonas, as well as a double credit rating downgrade, the DA in the Eastern Cape is holding its own separate rally while Save South Africa is holding its own rally in Zwide.

The DA, UDM, Cope, IFP, ACDP and EFF as well as unions - Fedusa and Solidarity, last week annouced the launch of the Freedom Movement, a joint effort to get rid of President Zuma.

But Save South Africa distanced itself from the movement saying that they are an independent movement and does not align itself to any political party

According to DA Eastern Cape Provincial Leader, Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor, Athol Trollip, the rally will be to demand “better governance at a national level is an expression of our hard-earned democratic freedom”.

“Change works, as we've seen in Tshwane, Johannesburg and right here in Nelson Mandela Bay,” he added.

The rally is expected to be attended by DA Provincial Deputy Leader, Bobby Stevenson MPL; Port Elizabeth Northern Areas Constituency Leader, Edmund van Vuuren MPL; and NMB MMC, Councillor Nqaba Bhanga.
