LIVE STREAM: National Day of Action as opposition marches on Union Buildings

Thousands of opposition supporters braved chilly weather and light rain when they converged at Church Square in Pretoria for Wednesday's National Day of Action against President Jacob Zuma, who is also celebrating his 75th birthday today.

A heavy police presence is also stationed around the Union Buildings to respond to lawlessness.

Ironically, Wednesday is also former Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan's birthday. He was fired by President over two weeks ago, together with his deputy, former Eastern Cape MEC for Economic Development, Mcebisi Jonas, in a controversial Cabinet Reshuffle that has since seen the country downgraded to junk status by two rating agencies.

Besides other civic organisations, the National Day of Action has been organised by the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), the African Independent Congress (AIC), the African People's Convention (APC), Agang SA, the Congress of the People (COPE), the Democratic Alliance (DA), the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and the United Democratic Movement (UDM).

Last week, the Save South Africa movement, which is led by businessman, Sipho Pityana, organised a nationwide protest that also saw hundreds marching and demanding the resignation of  President Zuma in Port Elizabeth and East London as well as smaller Eastern Cape towns.
