LIVE: Warriors sniff first Sunfoil Series victory against Cape Cobras

With nine 4-day Sunfoil Series matches so far in the 2017/18 campaign all levelling to draws, the Warriors have at the close of play against the Cape Cobras at Newlands on Tuesday, snuffled what could be the first result.

Winning on an away wicket will make it even sweeter for the Warriors, who took to the crease first up and batted for a total of 86.5 overs on day one and two, before being picked off for 347 all out.

What ignited the Warriors’ innings though, was Yaseen Vallie’s exceptional score of 150, who steered the way for the players in the middle order throughout. With seven players scoring less than 20 runs each, Vallie was backed up well by tail-ender, Ayabulela Gqamane, who contributed a stern 61 runs to the side’s projection.

The Warriors have certainly put the first step forward, and with the result still indefinite, the Cobras did get off to a decent start scoring 97/2 before bad light stopped play at the end of day two. The Cobras can still piggy back on some momentum, with opener Pieter Malan currently on 84 not out, getting shy of his century run, partnered by night-watchman Justin Ontong currently on 25. The Warriors, though, can count themselves plucking in front, after taking two vital wickets before the close-of-play in the services of Basheer Walters and Simon Harmer.
