Load shedding avoided on Thursday night after Eskom receives additional power

Eskom encourages South Africa to save electricity to avoid load shedding in Winter

Port Elizabeth - After warning South Africa of the high possibility of load shedding on Thursday night, Eskom ended up not implementing any load shedding.

Eskom had said South Africa should expect load shedding between 5pm and 10pm - due to a shortage of capacity due to the loss of generating units at our power stations.

"No loadshedding was implemented today, but the risk for Stage 1 loadshedding remains," the power utility still said.

"As indicated in the Winter Plan there is a risk of Stage 1 rotational load shedding over the next few months."

'Winter load shedding will only be implemented as a last resort'

Eskom still said that load shedding will only be implemented when it is absolutely necessary.

"We continue to encourage residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly during this period. Please switch off geysers as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand."

Eskom encouraged customers to keep checking their load shedding schedules on the Eskom or municipal website, and plan on the assumption that load shedding will take place.
