Local trail runners shine at Sanlam Cape Town marathon

 South African athletes dominated the 11km and 22km trail races on Saturday, kicking off the action during the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon weekend running festival.

 Givemore Mudzinganyama secured victory in the men's 22km event in 1:29:00, with Edwin Sesipi taking second place in 1:29:19.

 Meanwhile, Andronica Mokgotla won the women's race in 1:54:36, holding off her closest challenger, Katya Soggot, by 0:01:66.

 The 11km event was won by Riaan Wildskut in 46:32, while Hayley Preen secured the women's title in 54:38.

 "As headline sponsors, Sanlam is pleased to have had another great turnout for these two races," said Yegs Ramiah, Chief Executive: Sanlam Brand.

 "These trail events give runners an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Cape Town and are proving a strong draw card to athletes from around the world.  Congratulations to everyone who participated."
