Madiba Bay School of Flight reaches out to underprivileged pre-schools

The Madiba Bay School of Flight in Port Elizabeth has opened its doors to several Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centres from underprivileged areas around Nelson Mandela Bay.

As part of an incentive programme linked to Early Inspiration, an ECD Training Centre in Port Elizabeth these centres were selected to partake in this education outing.

Joshua Rehse, a student pilot and cadet at Madiba Bay School of Flight says that, "For us, Aviation is all about giving back and the more we give in this industry, the more we get back. I choose to commit to my profession and seeing the kid's faces light up and sing as they see aircraft up close for the first time is beyond priceless.”

Madiba Bay Flght School is said to be dedicated to “making flight dreams a reality” this local flight school has opened the opportunity for numerous children’s dreams of experiencing an aeroplane up close.

"We are a family of pilots that are super passionate about flying" says Joshua, "... which is why we are excited to offer this platform for children to see aviation as a possible career path. Many People often think aviation is out of their grasp but that is most certainly not the case. These children could very well be the future of aviation."

Madiba Bay School of Flight says ECD development a priority

With a guided tour of the school, an interactive talk and the opportunity for each child to sit inside an aeroplane the fight school has gone out of its way to educate and encourage dialogue regarding transport, flight and safety.

Early Childhood Education is a priority area for development in South Africa.

Transport is a theme that is part of the ECD lessons for toddlers and young children which occur throughout the year in preschool classrooms.

Jessica Ronaasen, social worker and ECD Facilitator from Early Inspiration, comments, “We are delighted to have our ECD Centres exposed to real world experiences and this is a wonderful opportunity for these children to see and experience a world of transport through flight.”

Visits to the Flight School will continue into early 2019.
