Malesela’s tactical team talk possibly contributed in Chippa’s turnaround win over Chiefs

After being winless for nine games, Chippa United eventually dug deep to rejuvenate a 3-1 victory over the Kaizer Chiefs at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

Chippa managed to turn the game on its head after being 1-0 down for the first 70 minutes of the match, when Lerato Manzini of the Chilli Boys headed in a crosser from the right-back position.

Just a minute later, Tshwarelo Bereng, converted a brilliant crosser for a goal as he was moving back toward the Chiefs keeper.

With just four minutes remaining, Manzini scored his second as he slotted a pass received at the edge of the box into the bottom-right corner of the goals, to put the nail into the coffin of the Chiefs.

When that did not seem like enough ascendency, Manzini could have taken the scores to 4-1 and a personal three goals in stoppage time, but failed to tap-in a sitter of a goal that was to be ascertained of hitting home.

Dan Malesela, reportedly played his cards right at half-time with the gist of his team talk surrounding clever talk for players leaving the club; and may have driven his players to dig deeper for a higher purpose in the second half.

“I played mind games at half-time, speaking to certain players with all sorts of things, leaving the club and so on. It seemed to have worked very well,” Malesela told SuperSport following the victory.

“I’m just pleased that at last we managed to score, and three goals especially, so that’s good. We still have a lot of things to work on but I’m happy with this, we needed this win,” Malesela added.

“All in all I’m very appreciative of the efforts of the players, I know there were a lot of tired bodies. Very well done, what else can you say?”

Chippa are now currently 10th on the overall ABSA Premiership log with 13 table points. Their next fixture is scheduled to be against Polokwane City at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday, 14th December.
