Man and his girlfriend arrested in Kwanobuhle over hijacked cars

Police in Uitenhage arrested a man and his girlfriend after they received valuable information about a vehicle that was allegedly hijacked in the Western Cape on Thursday night.

"Members from Uitenhage SAPS followed up on the information immediately and found two suspects, a 35-year-old female and her 38-year-old boyfriend in Jabavu Street, Kwanobuhle, with the suspected stolen vehicle at about 20:05," described police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart.

"Members from our VCIU were summoned to the scene and it was established that the vehicle, a silver Polo was stolen on 20 September 2018 in the Strand, Western Cape.

"Further information was followed up and a second vehicle, a white Polo was recovered in Berige Street, Kwanobuhle."

She said that it was established that the white Polo was hijacked in Woodstock in August.

Suspects expected in court for possession of stolen cars

"The suspects are due to appear in the Kwanobule Magistrate's Court on Monday, on a charge of possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle. Investigations are continuing and further arrests are imminent."

Acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll, commended the members for the good work and successful confiscation that was performed.
