Man arrested at Butterworth Hospital after trying to rob good Samaritan

Ngqamakhwe police arrested a 33-year-old man in hospital for armed robbery over the weekend.

"The suspect tried to rob a man, who gave him lift from Tsomo to Ngqamakhwe," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"The robbery took place on Sunday at Dudumashe Village, along R409 road, in Ngqamakhwe, at about 10h00 on Sunday.

"The suspect was shot on his upper body by the complainant."

He said that the suspect was whisked away by his friends to Butterworth Hospital where he was later found by police.

"The firearm of the suspect had eight rounds of ammunition," Capt Manatha said.

"The other fire arm fell from the friend of the suspect. The suspect has been charged with armed robbery, possession of unlicensed fire arm and ammunition.

"He will appear the Ngqamakhwe Magistrate's Court soon."
