Man arrested for fatal stabbing that took place on Christmas weekend

Team work and sharing of information led to the arrest of  a 23-year-old murder suspect in Algoa Park, Port Elizabeth, over the weekend.  

"At about 09:30 on Saturday morning, the Port Elizabeth Flying Squad and SAPS Algoa Park Crime Prevention members acted on information received about a murder suspect in Kerk Street, Missionvale," explained police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

"It is alleged that on 23 December, a 30-year-old male was fatally stabbed in Missionvale."

She said that the man later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

"When the suspect spotted the police vehicle, he started to run, but was apprehended," Col Naidu said.

"Police also found 11 packets of tik and some cash in his possession.

"He was detained for murder and possession of drugs." 

Also on Saturday, Flying Squad members confiscated a 9mm replica firearm with a silencer and magazine.

"Members attended to a complaint in  Dalton Street, Algoa Park, of pointing of a firearm and on further investigation, it was established that the complainant reported the incident after a domestic brawl. No arrest was made," added Col Naidu.

She warned the public that harbouring criminals is an offence and police are appealing to the communities to continue reporting these offenders so that they are removed from society.
