Butterworth - A 27-year-old Butterworth man is expected in court on Monday after he was arrested by police for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, aged 27 over the weekend.

"It is alleged that the 27-year-old girlfriend requested her brother to accompany her to the shack of her boyfriend. Both went to the shack of her boyfriend at Skiet Informal Settlement, Butterworth on Friday, at about 15h15," described police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"The two found the boyfriend with another girlfriend.

"The brother of the 27-year-old girlfriend allegedly attacked the woman, whom they found inside the shack."

According to police information, it was then that the boyfriend drew his knife and stabbed the woman, who had arrived with her brother, on her upper body.

"She was rushed to Butterworth Hospital where she passed away."

Butterworth police acted swiftly and arrested the 27-year-old boyfriend and charged him with murder.

"The suspect will appear before the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a murder charge. The deceased was identified as Nobuhle Jwayi."
