Storms River - In a rather shocking incident, alert Storms River police officers arrested a 32-year-old man in the act of stealing inside one of the administration offices of the police station in Storms River on Thursday.

"On Thursday, at about 12:50am, a member working at the Community Service Centre spotted someone on the CCTV monitor scaling a boundary fence at the back of the police station and immediately summoned other colleagues for assistance," described police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli.

"It is said that the suspect forced open a window and entered one of the offices in the administration block.

"It is said that a suspect was arrested inside the office busy disconnecting a computer."

Capt Nkohli said that police also recovered two memory sticks inside his pocket.

"A preliminary investigation has revealed that the memory sticks belong to a member, who works at the police station," he said.

"The 32-year-old suspect is due to appear at the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court on Friday on charges of housebreaking and theft."

Humansdorp SAPS Cluster Commander, Brigadier John Lebok, praised members for their alertness.

“It is pleasing to see the alertness and state of readiness of members, when a criminal came knocking at their own backyard”, added Brig Lebok.
