Man expected in Bellville court following R30 million drug bust

A 50-year-old man is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate's Court on Monday after he was busted by officers from the Parow visible policing unit, in partnership with Border police and customs officials, with drugs worth around R30 million.

According to police information, police wee busy with operations in the Parow Industria area, when they stopped a truck and discovered 19 bags of suspected uncut crystal methamphetamine stashed in two fridges inside the truck.

"The vehicle which came from Johannesburg was destined for a warehouse in the area," said police spokesperson, Brigadier Novela Potelwa.

"A 50-year-old suspect was arrested and will appear in the Bellville Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of dealing in drugs.

"The consignment of crystal methamphetamine weighing about 35kg with an estimated value of R30 million was sent for forensic analysis."

Brig Potelwa said that the investigation continues and more arrests could follow.

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt General Khombinkosi Jula has commended the vigilance of the members involved. 

"The confiscation and arrest boost our efforts to tackle both drug users and dealers," says Lt General Jula.
