Man expected in court following fatal tavern stabbing in Jeffreys Bay

A 21-year-old man is expected in court on Monday following his arrest by Jeffreys Bay police after a a man was fatally stabbed inside a tavern in Jeffreys Bay over the weekend.

"On Saturday, at around 2am, police were summoned to a complaint of murder inside a tavern in Adelaide Tambo Street, Jeffreys Bay," said police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli.

"At the scene, police found a lifeless body of Siyabonga Mashala (32), who was found with a stab wound in his upper body."

He said that few hours later, a preliminary investigation led to the arrest of a 21-year-old man, who was arrested hiding in a shack that is situated in Gushindoda Informal Settlement, Jeffreys Bay.

"At this stage, a motive for the attack is unknown," Capt Nkohli added.

"A suspect, aged 21, is due to appear at the Humansdorp Magistrate's Court on Monday on a charge of murder."
