Man expected in court for fatally stabbing teen at tavern

A 23-year-old man is expected in court on Monday after he was arrested by Ngqamakhwe police for alleged killing a 19-year-old man at a tavern over the weekend.

"It is alleged that the both the deceased and the suspect were in a tavern on Saturday, at about 24:00, at Sihlabeni Village, Ngqamakhwe," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha. 

"Both men had a misunderstanding that is not known to the police.

"The suspect is alleged to have drawn his knife and stabbed the 19-year-old on his upper body."

Captain Manatha said that the latter was rushed to Butterworth hospital where he was certified dead on arrival.

"The 23-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with murder.

"The suspect will appear before the Ngqamakhwe Magistrate Court on Monday," he said.

"The identity of the deceased is still being withheld until his family members are informed of his murder."
