Man expected in George court following R3.5 million Christmas Day drug bust

A 45-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the George Magistrate's Court on Wednesday after he was busted near the town in possession of drugs worth millions on Christmas Day.

According to the police, he suspect was arrested by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, together with local cops and K9 Unit, along the N9 between Uniondale and Harold.

"The George bound suspect, reportedly from Soweto in Gauteng, was swiftly intercepted after information came to light that he was allegedly transporting drugs," police described.

"The search with the help of a K9 narcotics dog uncovered a false compartment containing about 75000 units of Mandrax tablets valued at approximately R3.8 million.

"Just over R11 000 in cash was also seized.

"The suspect is due to appear in the George Magistrates' Court on Wednesday to face charges relating to drug dealing."
