Man handed lengthy jail sentence for mystery 2016 murder

The Tsomo Regional Court on Monday convicted and sentenced 29-year-old Siboleke Xhala to undergo 15 years imprisonment for a murder that occurred in January 2016.

"It is alleged that the accused met with the deceased - 40-year-old Phumlani Sihlali," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha. 

"The accused met with the deceased on 05 January 2016, at about 03:30, at Linzi Location, Mtebhele Village, Ngqamakhwe.

"The deceased was walking with a woman when he met the accused. The latter drew his dagger knife and stabbed the deceased, who was rushed to Butterworth hospital where he later died." 

Captain Manatha said that the motive for the murder remains unclear to date.

"Ngqamakhwe Police investigated the case and later arrested the accused."
