Man jailed for life for killing ex-girlfriend and trying to kill her new lover

A 30-year-old man, Ndive Sityoshana, was on Thursday sentenced to undergo life imprisonment for the murder of his former girlfriend and five years for attempted murder of the man, whom his ex-girlfriend was now seeing.

The accused was sentenced at the Tsomo Regional Magistrate's Court.

"It is alleged that the accused went to the house where the deceased (his former girlfriend) and her new boyfriend were on Sunday, 24 April 2017, at about 17:00, at Mbeveni Locality, Mthwaku Village, Ngqamakhwe," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"He started to stab the boyfriend, aged 32, who managed to run away leaving the girlfriend behind.

"The girlfriend, who was known as Ayanda Anga Khonco, aged 28, also tried to run away.

"She was chased and caught by the accused, who stabbed her all over the body until she passed away at the scene."

Ngqamakhwe police investigated both the attempted murder of the 32-year-old boyfriend and murder of the deceased.

"The accused was traced and arrested on 28 May 2017," said Capt Manatha.

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu, praised the professional investigation of the cases by the Ngqamakhwe police detectives, which led to the conviction and sentences of the accused.

He said that the hefty sentence will serve as a lesson to all the men, who still dream of murdering women.

The sentences will run concurrently.
