Marginal Rise in Storage Dams Water Volumes

The major storage dams supplying Nelson Mandela Bay were at a combined 78.04% of capacity when the most recent reading was taken yesterday, 0.11% higher than a week ago.

Details released by the municipality show that the largest storage dam, the Kouga was at 85.92% of capacity compared to 85.22% a week ago, while the second largest, Impofu was at 72.51% compared to 72.98% last Monday.

The Churchill was at 60.97% yesterday, marginally down on the 61.01% recorded a week ago, while the Groendal remained at 100% and the Loerie was at 58.87% (58.99%).

Water and Sanitation Director Barry Martin warned on Friday that currently there was not sufficient water in the dams to sustain the municipality for the next 18- 24 months.

He said the SA Weather Service had said the metro would experience “reduced rainfall “over the next five months. - MetroMinutes.
