Matatiele police appeal for leads after store robbed by four men

Police in Matatiele are appealing to members of the community for assistance with information on four suspects who robbed a store in Matatiele on Wednesday at about 18:20.

"It is alleged that four suspects entered the Matatiele store whilst their faces were hidden with caps when the store was about to close for the day," explained police spokesperson, Capt Raphael Motloung.

"One of them (suspects) forcibly entered first, pretending to have left an item, which he had purchased, in the shop and he needed to collect it from inside the shop."

Apparently, after he managed to push back the security guard at the door, he got inside the shop and others quickly followed him.

"When inside the shop, one of them, ordered the shop manager at gunpoint to go to the cash office and show him where the money is kept whist the other suspects were inside the shop keeping a watch after the employees took cover for safety."

Inside the cash office, the suspect took the undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene.

"No persons were injured," Capt Motloung said.

"A case of business robbery is being investigated.

"Any person with the information should contact the Matatiele SAPS on this number 038 737 9900 or the Crime Stop number on 0860010111."
