Mayor cautions drivers after horrific R63 head-on collision that claimed nine

The Executive Mayor of the Raymond Mohlaba Local Municipality, Bandile Ketelo, on Monday said that he had learned with great shock and enormous sadness about the tragic deaths of nine members of the Adonis family in a horrifying road accident that happened on the R63 between Adelaide and Fort Beaufort on Sunday night.

It is alleged that a Toyota Tazz, that was travelling from Adelaide and carrying five men and four women, veered to the left side and back into the road again, crossing to the side of an oncoming truck. The truck driver was not injured and police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.

"The loss of life is overwhelming. The sadness of loved ones left behind is a heavy burden to bear. My heart goes out to the family and friends of the deceased, and I trust that the bereaved will find peace in time," the Mayor said.

"The entire community is there for all who grieve the deceased.

"Loss of life by road accident is always brutal and we need to prevent these devastating accidents by our extreme caution."

Executive Mayor Ketelo said that no matter the reason for road accidents, these accidents are always fierce and always cause enormous grief for all involved and all touched by the accidents.

"I caution all drivers to be very careful on our roads."
