MBDA adds more parking at Boet Erasmus for Ironman 70.3 World Championship

It was back in July when the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) Chief Executive Officer, Ashraf Adam, made the announcement that a park and ride facility would be ready to accommodate the anticipated  influx into the beach front during the Ironman 70.3 world championship weekend over the 1st and 2nd of September.

MBDA Spokesperson Luvuyo Bangazi says “the event happening this weekend happens between two main transition zones, Kings Beach as the swim start and Hobie Beach as the finish area. Boet Erasmus or Telkom Park precinct makes it for easy access to both sites in terms of location and distance.

"To add to the experience, a local shuttle service Out & About has come on board to ferry citizens and visitors to the race from the parking facility at Boet Erasmus to the two sites all weekend long”

“Locals and visitors alike can drop off their vehicles and catch the Tuk Tuks to Kings Beach for the and the Boardwalk though out the weekend. Supervised parking is free but will be served on a first come basis” added Bangazi.

Devon Harrison of Out and About shuttles says “There are two routes available, the first is to Kings Beach to catch the swim start at 7am. Tuk Tuks will pick up at Telkom Park and drop off passengers along Humewood Road near the swim start at Kings Beach.

"The second route is to the Boardwalk and 2nd avenue. The Tuk Tuks will ferry from Telkom Park to second avenue. Both routes will run simultaneously”.

“The link between Out and About came along when the company engaged the MBDA about their vision, to recruit unemployed youth and training them as drivers, giving them an opportunity to earn an income. We are delighted that local business also sees the opportunity to create jobs and spread the benefit of hosting this iconic event,” concludes Bangazi.

In short, free parking is available on the grounds adjacent to Boet Erasmus (Telkom Park). Five Tuk Tuks will carry spectators between Boet Erasmus and Kings Beach as well as between Boet Erasmus and 2nd Ave, The Boardwalk
