Eastern Cape Rural Development and Agrarian Reform MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, will on Tuesday inspect the status of the livestock farming projects that received cattle and goats from the department in Bedford.

"Between 2015 and 2016 MEC Qoboshiyane handed over 96 goats to Intsha Yase Nyara Cooperative; four Bonsmara bulls to Bedford Commonage; three Bonsamara bulls to Worteldrift multipurpose cooperative; four beef master bulls to Mhlanga cooperative; one Nguni bull, one Borain bull, one Bonsmara bull and 20 Bonsmara heifers to Worteldrift Nguni cooperative; and two Beef master bulls to Laphumikhwezi cooperative," the Eastern Cape Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform said.

"The livestock was given to the farmers for them to drive their own commercial agriculture enterprises as part of the government’s efforts to empower black people involved in agriculture with the resources they need for their growth.

"During his inspection visit, the MEC will receive reports about each project detailing number of off springs of both goat and cattle heifers, economic benefits for the farmers, profits and income made by the farmers from the livestock they received from the department."

The department also provided drought relief material to the Bedford farmers during the drought to help them mitigate its impact on their livestock.

"After his engagement with the farmers during his inspection, MEC Qoboshiyane will then release results of the projects supported by his department."
