MEC shocked at killing of OR Tambo Coastal District Subject Advisor

Bhisho - New Eastern Cape Department of Education MEC, Fundile Gade, expressed his shock and sadness at news of the brutal killing of the OR Tambo Coastal Education district IsiXhosa subject advisor at her home in Mbizana, over the weekend.

According to a report submitted by the OR Tambo Coastal district director, the 46-year-old newly employed Subject Advisor for FET IsiXhosa stationed in Lusikisiki was brutally murdered Saturday night around 10:00.

"The incident took place while she was at her home in Mbizana with her family," said Eastern Cape Dept of Education spokesperson, Mali Mtima.

"It is alleged that, thieves broke into the house, tortured husband and wife and later took the wife to a forest.

"The perpetrators stabbed her as wounds and gun shots were visible at the scene. The report further states that the perpetrators later dragged the victim to a nearby forest where she was murdered."

The MEC and the entire education sector sends its heartfelt condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased.

"I hope the family will find solace in God in this trying time in their lives. This is a loss to the sector especially the district as it struggles to attract people with adequate skills in these learning areas ", said Gade.

Gade asks any community members with relevant information to come forward and assist law enforcement officers in tracking down perpetrators of the dastardly deed.
