MEC Tunyiswa to re-open Mdantsane Library on Thursday

The Eastern Cape Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC), led by MEC Bulelwa Tunyiswa, is expected on Thursday to re-open the Mdantsane Library and also raise awareness about the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD).

The day that is observed annually on 3rd of December in Mdantsane.

According to DSRAC spokesperson, Andile Nduna, the Mdantsane Library was closed due to damage caused by storm water in February this year.

"However, it has been operating since the 1st of November 2018. Hence, MEC Tunyiswa will make awareness to the community members that the library is once more operational," he added.

Mdantsane Library keeping learners busy over the holidays

"The Library is opened in time to host the holiday programme held annually for pupils to continue learning and active during their school holidays and the MEC will also hand over sport equipment.

"Furthermore, the department took a decision for our libraries to be accessible also to person with disabilities and work with the Special Programme Unit, as this is their right."

Nduna said that the two sections are rolling-out a number of activities that seek to encourage participation and awareness on different types of disabilities.
