Meet Ilze van Deventer, Metrofile’s General Manager for the Eastern Cape

Ilze van Deventer has been working for Metrofile (Pty) Ltd, the leader in fully integrated records and information management (RIM) in South Africa and select African countries, for the past 10 years.

Originally from the IT industry, van Deventer says what attracted her the most to the company was Metrofile’s systems. “Very few companies have the capability to develop their own software and tailor it to their own needs as well as the needs of their customers.”

She adds Metrofile’s services are vital in enabling businesses, private practices, organisations and government departments to manage their greatest risk - the loss of information. “We have a proven track record of helping our clients to back up, manage, store and protect large volumes of documents, images and data in both physical and electronic formats.”

When I look at local businesses, it is concerning to witness how few companies know how their documents are managed and where they are kept, she states.  “It is essential that records and information management service providers educate their clients on how their documents are managed as well as the importance of understanding the POPI Act.”

van Deventer joined Metrofile in 2006 as a salesperson, rising to the position of Sales Manager in five short years. Another five years later she was promoted to General Manager for the Eastern Cape.

She says that the company has grown by leaps and bounds over the last decade. “When I first joined Metrofile in 2006 we rented premises in Neave, Port Elizabeth. In 2009 the company built a new state-of-the-art warehouse in Perseverance in Port Elizabeth. This demonstrates Metrofile’s commitment towards its customers and the valuable information they manage.”

According to van Deventer her passion for the company and the dedicated people working for Metrofile motivates her. “We have a few employees in the Eastern Cape who have been with the company for over 10 years. I believe in rewarding hard work and making sure that the employees who are going the extra mile receive the recognition they deserve. We are all working towards the same goal. I feel that too little time is spent to actually get to know and understand the people we work with,” she adds.

van Deventer notes that Metrofile was the first company of its kind to introduce off-site records management and storage, sophisticated storage software, pioneer outsourced scanning services as well as image and data hosting services. “44 facilities managed by highly skilled staff servicing clients in all nine provinces should be enough motivation for companies to partner with us,” van Deventer concludes.
