Metro unveils new competition to get residents to pay their municipal accounts

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality on Wednesday unveiled a new initiative aimed at getting local residents to pay off their municipal accounts on time. Dubbed the Pay to Play Competition, the Metro is encouraging residents to simply pay their municipal account and stand a chance to win a share of R500 000 in prizes!

The competition opened on Wednesday and closes 31 June 2017.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is owed around R2 billion by both domestic and commercial consumers.

"Due to the habitual declining debt collection rate of the municipality  over the festive period. The collection rate for January 2016 dropped to 76.8%. The municipality came up with an idea of promoting payment of rates and services through a competion, where municipal account-holders, who pay their accounts will stand a chance of winning various cash prizes as well as two motor cars," the Metro explained in a statement.

Despite objections from some quarters of the community, the Metro has previously announced stringent measures to try and recoup the monies owed. Read more here: METRO'S NEW STRINGENT MEASURES TO RECOUP R2 BILLION OWED BY RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES.
