Metro warns against unscrupulous operators offering to help evade water restrictions

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality on Wednesday warned residents not to buy from unscrupulous local businesses that are offering to fill up their swimming pools with water as a way of circumventing the current water restrictions.

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Mayoral Committee Member (MMC) for Infrastructure and Engineering, Cllr Annette Lovermore, said that while the Metro understands why residents will need to fill up their swimming pools, buying water from these operators will only put other residents at risk as the Bay's reservoirs are low.

Lovemore further urged all residents and visitors to continue to use water sparingly.

She said that those who contravene the current water restrictions will be dealt with in line with the penalties introduced by Council.

Residents are urged to report all illegal activities around water usage to 0800 20 5050.
