Ford Motor Company South Africa has extended the use of its multi-award winning 1.0-litre three cylinder EcoBoost engine to lower-spec versions of its Fiesta supermini, as a replacement for some models using the normally aspirated 1.4.

Now available in base Ambiente and flagship Titanium trims, each can also be specified with the six-speed Powershift dual-clutch transmission that originally debuted only on the mid-range Trend. The former spec will initially only be available with the self-shifter as the five-speed manual box will go-on sale near the end of the year.

Revisions have also taken place under the bonnet with manual models still make 92 kW and 170 N.m of torque, while auto models produce the amount of twist but with 74 kW.

Fuel consumption is a claimed 4.3 L/100 km for the manual and 4.9 L/100 km for the auto. Regardless of what transmission is chosen, both come in below the 120g/km CO2emissions threshold with manual models spewing out 99g/km and the Powershift 114g/km.
