More injury worries for Boks

The Springboks are sweating over the availability of a few players who were injured in Saturday’s 27-20 Rugby Championship defeat to the All Blacks in Johannesburg.

Props Jannie du Plessis and Vincent Koch and loose forwards Francois Louw and Warren Whiteley were forced off with injuries in a brutally physical clash.

"Jannie (du Plessis) has a knee injury, Flo (Louw) injured a shoulder and Vincent and Warren probably have broken ribs," coach Heyneke Meyer said afterwards.

The loss of two nominated tighthead props meant French referee Jerome Garces called for uncontested scrums at a time when the Boks were dominating in that department.

The Boks still had Trevor Nyakane, who can play both loosehead and tighthead, but he was not a designated tighthead for the Test - which prompted Garces to make a technical decision.

More clarity regarding the injured players will be known as the week progresses.
