Mother and son burn to death in Colchester shack fire, police investigating

Police in Port Elizabeth are investigating how two people died in a shack fire early on Sunday morning.

"During the early morning hours this morning at 04:00, a shack in Endlovini, Colchester, caught fire and claimed the lives of a mother and son," described police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge.

"The mother, identified as 73-year-old Nolulamile Mbengashe, and her son, identified as 46-year-old Lwandile Mbengashe, succumbed due to their wounds in the fire.

"It is suspected that the son was busy making food when the fire started."

Captain Beetge said that an inquest docket was opened at Kinkelbos police station.
