Mt Frere teen died after school hostel she was locked in caught fire

Mount Frere - Police in Mount Frere opened an inquest docket for investigation following an arson incident, which occurred at Tyelimhlophe agricultural School in Ntenetyana Loc Lugangeni A/A, in Mount Frere, on Friday at about 08:00.

"It is alleged that a 17-year-old female deceased was locked inside the school's hostel by the matron, because she was so sick and couldn't attend classes," said police spokesperson, Capt Raphael Motloung.

"At the time mentioned, the hostel was seen on fire and there was an attempt to rescue her, but it was too late so she died inside the hostel due to fire.

"The hotel building was reduced to ashes."

Capt Motloung said that no one knows the cause of the fire as hostel was burnt down.

"The deceased was taken by forensics and fire experts were summoned to come and investigate the cause of the fire."

He said that anyone with the information should contact Mt Fleree SAPS on 039 2550 0550.
