Mthatha police appeal for leads following fatal drive-by shooting

Mthatha police have appealed to the public to assist them with any information that may lead to the arrest of suspects involved in the fatal shooting of three men, aged between 48 and 53 years, over the weekend.

A 63-year-old man was also injured in the shooting that occurred at Upper Tabase on Saturday at about 14h45.

"It is alleged that the deceased and the victim were travelling together from Bityi when they were accosted by unknown assailants, who were alleged to be driving in separate vehicles with unidentified license plates," said police spokesperson, Captain Khaya Tonjeni.

"It is further alleged that several gunshots were fired to the vehicle and three men succumbed to their injuries whilst one sustained injuries on his lower body and was rushed to hospital."

Motive for the shooting unknown

He said that multiple cartridges were picked from the scene.

"Motive for the attack is yet to be established and police are investigating three murder and an attempted murder cases.

"We appeal to anyone with information to come forward," Capt Tonjeni said.
