Murder suspect slapped with two-year jail sentence for escaping from Mdantsane court

Mdantsane Magistrate Court on Tuesday sentenced a 30-year-old man, Thabani Mkokheli, to two years behind bars for escaping lawful custody.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Nkosikho Mzuku, Mkokeli and his friend, Lulekani Somtsora, who is aged 25 years old and is still at large, escaped from the Mdantsane Magistrate's Court two weeks ago.

He said that Mkokeli was re-arrested a week later by Mdantsane police.

“He is still going to appear in the Mdantsane Magistrate's Court facing charges of murder and business robbery,” said Captain Mzuku.

Police commended members of the public for working with local police and supplying the information that led to Mkokheli being re-arrested.
