National Children’s Day celebrated in Rosemoor

The Directorate for Community Services, Social Services Unit went all out on Saturday 5th November to celebrate National Children’s Day which takes place on the first Saturday of November annually. The event hosted by the Portfolio Councillor for Social Services, Mercia Draghoender was held at Rosemoor Stadium with over 300 children from participating crèches and primary schools attending the morning’s festivities.

The children ranging in age from 3 – 10 were kept busy for the morning with balloons, face painting, sport games, jumping castles, an exhibition by the George Fire Brigade, a visit from Daantjie Kat, SPCA puppet show as well as dance, singing and poetry performances by the Sinako Youth Group, Poppehuis Crèche and  Lawaaikamp Crèche.

The aim of the National Children’s Day celebration is to highlight progress being made towards the realisation and promotion of rights of children and the Executive Mayor Melvin Naik chatted to the little one’s about respecting your personal space, listening to your parents, and most importantly a message to the parents to keep their children in crèche as the foundation for their future learning. George Municipality would like to thank ER 24 who attended the day as well as all of the other organisations who so freely gave of their time.
