Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has lost about 60% water supply

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality on Thursday afternoon advised residents that it has lost about 60% of its water supply.

"Nooitgedagt water treatment works has started up again but not in full capacity. Reservoirs will take longer to fill up. Storage levels have dropped critically low in various areas due to the supply loss of two major systems simultaneously," the Metro said.

"Water Services technicians will be working through the night on the mechanical failure of the pump at Loerie water treatment works, however the expected time frame for this repair might be Friday the May 4, 2018."

It said that all consumers are requested to only use water absolutely for critical purposes as it will take many hours to fill up storage to a point of secured supply.

"This is for all consumers regardless of supply zone as supply is currently supplemented from other supply zones," the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality said.

"Again the municipality would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused."
