Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality urges public to keep refuse in-doors during strike

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality on Monday urged local residents and businesses to keep calm and keep their refuse at in-doors due to the "unexpected Waste Management strike".

The strike has brought refuse collection to a stop across the Bay. The result has been piles of uncollected garbage surfacing all across residential areas and even in the City Centre.

Apparently the waste management staff embarked on the strike following a disagreement on overtime with their employer - the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

"The municipality would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused,” said Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality spokesperson, Mthubanzi Mniki.

"The municipality requests that residents keep their refuse for the next collection date that is this week Thursday."

He urged those, who are able to drop off their refuse to drop it to the nearest drop site.

"Again the municipality would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused."
